Foot on the gas, twisting to stare out the back window, Loki Odinson shifts into reverse gear, leaving his “present” 2020 New Year in the dust. He’s turning back time, chasing after that gorgeous Sunlight Girl in 2017, refusing to let her sink beneath the western horizon. Backlit by neon clouds, Sigyn Frey is a walking daydream, and he’ll never get enough of her.
Eyes on the rear view mirror, it’s a road trip in the wrong direction with no agreed upon final destination other than somewhere in the vicinity of the stars above the concrete jungle.
“Alright, Sigyn Elena Frey, you win. I admit it. I’m completely out of my mind, but you seem to think that’s a BAD thing. Come now, what if one’s mind is a disaster? I already told you about the word tornado in my head, right? It’s probably best that I take a breather from trying to make some order out of inherent chaos. I need a break, and you do too. That much is clear. Otherwise, you wouldn’t come within ten feet of me. You have more than a craving for coffee, if you know what I mean. Ah, she laughs! Thank you, I’ll be here all week. Or as long as you’ll have me, which I hope lasts significantly longer than one week. Either way, I promise you’ll love me. Shit…pretend I didn’t say that.”

Ducking into the passenger’s side of Loki’s car, Sigyn barely managed to contain an embarrassingly satisfied sigh as her bare legs slid effortlessly along the leather seat. God, it felt so supple. She couldn’t be more grateful for making that high-IQ decision to wear this “make him crazy for me” miniskirt on a January night in New York with temps hovering around 40 degrees—every second in this car would bless her thighs. The moment that thought flitted through her mind, she nearly burst into tears from laughing so hard.
“Bless my thighs in this car,” she croaked, nearly unintelligible, “I can’t even!”
Eyes blowing wide open, Loki tilted his head at Sigyn, watching her curl up into a ball of hysterical laughter. As she sank down further in her seat, naturally, his eyes fixed on the skin just below the hem of her skirt inching further up her thigh. He blinked slowly, silently begging the universe to increase the gravity in this car and pull that fabric down faster. Uh, had she told him to bless her thighs in this car? If anything, her thighs were blessing him. Good god, he was getting such an eyeful with her in that position. With no small amount of effort, he lifted his eyes to her face and blindly pushed the start button in the center console, the engine roaring to life.
Sigyn stopped laughing, her eyes popping as the briefly deafening roar relaxed into a restrained purr. Biting into a smile, she turned to face Loki. “For god’s sake, I think you just murdered every pair of ears within a three-block radius. Don’t get me wrong, I felt that in my soul, and I loved it, but it might literally be illegal.” She snorted quietly. “Is this a V8?”
Releasing the parking brake, he grinned. “No, it’s merely a conspicuous as hell V6. I test drove the V8, and it was a goddamn beast. Four words sum it up—” he held up four fingers “— heavy straight line power. It’s rough around corners. Less nimble. The sustained decibels are off the charts. I mean, for god’s sake, fireworks are less offensive. But that’s neither here nor there because Jaguar only offers the 6-speed gearbox in the rear-wheel drive V6.”
“Any chance you’d let me drive this thing?” she asked, blinking doe-eyed at him.
Eyebrows knitting, he leaned toward her. “You know how to drive a 6-speed?”
“Technically, no—”
“Oh god, listen, I can’t teach you how to handle a goddamn clutch, so don’t even ask. I like you too much to watch you stall my car. It would ruin my high opinion of you.”
She gave him an unimpressed look. “Alright, CAR-boy—” she rolled her eyes “— I know how to handle a goddamn clutch in a 5-speed.” she shrugged one shoulder, “I’m confident I can go the extra mile and get it up to sixth gear.”
Loki squinted at her, his lips pursing. Ten seconds of heated silence passed before he finally responded, a smirk spreading across his face. “In that case, I will gladly let you prove you can get my car up to sixth gear.”
