After breaking up three months prior, Loki “Starboy” Odinson, 36, a famous writer living in the lower west side of Manhattan, and his ex-girlfriend Sigyn Elena Frey, 31, and up-and-coming architect in New York City, answer the “to hook up or not to hook up again” question on New Year’s Eve 2019. The only thing standing between them is a two and a half year long history that broke both their hearts.

For me, New Year Same Habit is more than my favorite novel. It’s a savior. I realize it sounds hyperbolic, possibly arrogant, to make such a claim about my own book, but I have good reason—I wrote it in 2020.

From its earliest conception on January 1, 2020 to publishing the final chapter at 12:00am on January 1, 2021, writing this novel truly saved (and transformed) my life throughout a nearly year-long pandemic lockdown when everything I’d worked so hard to build for a damn decade came crumbling down.

I did not plan to write a random full-length modern AU novel during 2020. No, I’d planned to write a short little one-off story (a three chapter novella at most), then quickly return to my popular Frigid Immortals Trilogy before the readers ditched me for “abandoning” a beloved series after a major cliffhanger 250K+ words in. Yeah well…apparently 2020 had other plans.
